Insight / Prestige SystemHome
Insight lets you choose how your stats grow. You start with low attributes and earn Insight XP by playing. Each level gives you a choice to put into Health, Action or Mind. Prestige lets you start again with more choices available.

The idea behind Insight

I wanted character growth to feel more like an older RPG. Fighting, crafting, exploring and following stories all help you develop your character over time. Insight is an extra progression system alongside the usual professions, where you choose how your attributes grow.

Your first levels

New characters start around 100 Health / 50 Action / 25 Mind, depending on race. You get an Insight System journal when you create your character. Use it to spend choices one at a time or several at once.

The beginning is harder because of those low stats. As you spend choices, you should feel yourself getting stronger. Prestige adds more choices each time you reset, so you can keep taking that growth further.

Creatures marked (Weakling) around starter cities are there to help you get your first Insight levels. An Assist Droid can also give you starter support and buffs.

How to earn Insight XP

All six of these contribute to the same Insight progression:

  • Combat Insight XP: fighting enemies.
  • Crafting Insight XP: crafting, including practice crafting.
  • Scout Insight XP: harvesting creatures.
  • Entertainer Insight XP: performing flourishes while dancing or playing music.
  • Bounty Hunting Insight XP: completing bounty work.
  • Adventure Insight XP: completing missions and supported quest stages, including Haven's custom stories.

Insight XP is separate from profession XP. You can keep training professions after you've finished your current Insight cycle.

Choosing your stats

Each Insight level gives you one choice. You can spend it on:

  • Health: +15 Health, +3 Strength and +3 Constitution.
  • Action: +10 Action, +2 Quickness and +2 Stamina.
  • Mind: +8 Mind, +2 Focus and +2 Willpower.

You can mix these however you like. Each choice gives the full increase listed above, including stored choices from Prestige.

How buffs scale

The more choices you've spent, the more of your positive attribute buffs you can use. XP and unspent choices don't count yet; stored choices count once you spend them. With the current alpha settings, you get the full available buff strength at 360 allocated choices.

This applies to your combined active attribute buffs. Getting several buffs still uses the same allowance. Insight lets you use more of a buff's original strength, up to its normal amount.

Assist Droid buffs also depend on your base attributes. Their starting strength is 50% of each primary pool (Health, Action and Mind) and 25% of each secondary stat, then the same Insight allowance applies. Putting choices into a pool increases that pool and the Droid support for it.

Your active buffs update when you spend choices or respec. For example, if you get buffed early and then spend another 45 choices, they recalculate automatically. You don't have to get buffed again, even if the Droid says "you already have buffs." The time left on the buffs stays the same.

Reaching 360 choices

You can earn 360 choices per cycle. At that point Insight XP stops for the current cycle. You'll see "Prestige is ready" once, and your journal has more information about what to do next.

Prestige is optional. When your cycle is complete, visit any Insight Master to review and confirm the reset. It currently costs 100,000 credits per Prestige, the same price for all five resets.

Starting again with stored choices

Prestige resets your Insight level, XP and stat allocations back to your starting base. You then get 100 stored choices per Prestige rank, ready to spend at Insight level 1.

Those stored choices come on top of the 360 you can earn in the new cycle. So Prestige 1 starts with 100 stored choices, Prestige 2 starts with 200 in total, and so on. Each reset gives you the allowance for your new rank.

The current cap is Prestige 5. At that rank you can finish one last 360-choice cycle, giving you 860 choices in total. Insight progression stops there, with no sixth Prestige.

What you keep

You keep your professions, equipment, quests and Adaptive progression. The only credits taken are the Prestige fee shown before you confirm. Cancelling changes nothing, and the reset won't go through if you can't afford it.

Your journal and Insight Masters

Your journal shows your Insight progress and lets you spend choices. Insight Masters also offer a separate paid respec, which lets you redistribute your choices while keeping your current Insight XP and cycle progress.

For harder fights and faster Insight gains, have a look at Prestige Missions. Equipment bonuses and defenses are explained under Professions & Combat.

These are the starting rules for alpha. The fee, rewards and balance values may change as people test the system.
